Petaling Jaya, 10 May 2010 – One puts on icing cream while the other cuts the cake- mothers and their children worked together for a creative cake decoration contest, to celebrate a warm and meaningful Mother’s Day.

This Family Cake Decoration Contest was held for the second time, in conjunction with Mother’s Day, by Tropicana City Mall and sponsored by Otak Otak Place. This contest was held on Mother’s Day itself, at the concourse area with 15 teams of participants.

Participants show creativity
As the organizer provided only a plain cake and icing cream, the participants had to show their creativity by decorating the cakes using egg rolls, jelly, biscuits, candies, strawberries and so forth to make their cake stand out from the rest.

The cakes that were decorated by participants grabbed shopper’s attention

15 teams tried their best to decorate the cake within the time allocated. Even though many were nervous at the beginning, the team members gave each other support and worked together to decorate the cake..

Hong Wen Xiang is the only dad to participate
The organizer allowed Hong Wen Xiang to participate as the only dad in the competition for the purpose of encouraging a sick family member.

Hong Wen Xiang said that his wife’s sister could not attend due to a temporary illness and his wife urged the organizer to accommodate him and his child instead of her sister, so that they can make cake on her sister’s behalf and to pray her for her speedy recovery.

The first place goes to 40-year-old Yuhalina and her daughter Teresala with their elegantly carved decoration, who walked away with a prize worth RM1000. The second and third place winners are Qirenkar and daughter Taweina, and Yang Hai Xian and daughter You Hui Xian.
