Five-day carnival for shoppers at mall
SHOPPERS can look forward to a magical experience at the Tropicana City Mall from April 25 to May 3.
The Magic Carnival 2009 will be held on April 25, 26 and May 1, 2, and 3 to bring excitement to the children and fascinate adults.
According to the mall’s marketing and leasing senior manager Mabel Tan, there will be magic competitions, magic workshops and vendors selling magic props. Shoppers can look forward to magic performances from local and international magicians from Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, the United States, China and Iran.

Among the magic categories that will be showcased are illusions, close-up magic, parlour (stage magic), mentalism and escapism.
At the press conference in the mall, local award-winning magician and Atrix Entertainment founder Avery Chin gave a preview of the magic performances in store.
Within a blink of an eye, he conjured up bits of paper from thin air and made a wand disappear.
“The objective is to improve the standard of magic in Malaysia, promote the art of magic to Malaysians and discover hidden talents,” he said of the magic competition.

Aspiring magicians can take part in the magic competition, held on April 26 and May 2, 3 (finals) in collaboration with the foreign “Let’s Do Magic” TV show and the champion stands to win RM3,000.
Bernard Lee, who will be the lecturer for the magic workshop, also encouraged budding magicians to take part in the competition.
“There are many underground magicians waiting for such a chance. This is a platform for them to showcase their skills,” he said, adding the TV show has uncovered some talents.
Lee hopes that the events can create awareness about magic and can change their perceptions.
“I hope people will have an open mind about magic,” he said.
Those who spend RM50 and above in a single receipt at the mall can register for the magic workshop to learn magic tricks. The workshop is only for those aged between seven and 15 years, a maximum of 50 people are allowed per session.
