DR KONG has finally arrived in Malaysia. The Hongkong-based footcare specialist recently opened its first retail outlet at Tropicana City Mall in Petaling Jaya.
The opening was officiated by Dr Kong Footcare Ltd (Hong Kong) founder and CEO Raymond Ng and Dr Kong Footcare (Malaysia) managing director Edmund Lee.
Celebrities who attended the event included MYFM deejay and actor Jack Lim, violinist Dennis Lau, actress Liza Othman and a special guest from Hongkong, Purple Lee, who is the queen of Cantonese songs for children.
Edmund, a trained and UK-registered orthotist and prosthetist, said it is especially important for young children to be educated on footcare as ill-fitting shoes can result in foot problems such as flatfoot and rearfoot valgus.
He added: "I personally believe that good footcare begins with healthy, comfortable shoes, especially for those working in industries where they have to be on their feet for long hours."
Ng said Dr Kong Footcare’s original Check & Fit service ensures that products are fit-to-a-tee to ensure comfort. He also pointed out that a survey has shown that over 60% of schoolchildren have flat foot syndrome but most of their parents are unaware of the problem.
At the store’s opening ceremony, Purple performed the signature ‘exercise’ song for Dr Kong Footcare. She was joined by all the celebrities and guests who gamely ‘exercised’ along with her.

The launch ended with a specially choreographed Waka-Waka dance performance featuring children, wearing Dr Kong shoes, from the STart society, an art centre dedicated to educating children from various underprivileged homes.
Dr Kong Footcare is on a mission to educate the public on the importance of foot health. The company has grown over the years, expanding to 54 retail outlets in Hongkong alone and another 65 outlets in China.
At Dr Kong Footcare outlets, customers can have their feet assessed by the Check & Fit foot examination machine. A team of health assistants will help them to select and insert suitable insoles into their footwear.
This unique feature enables customers to purchase the right pair of comfortable shoes that ensures healthy feet.
All of Dr Kong’s insole products meet international safety standards. They do not contain heavy metal or harmful chemicals and do not cause allergic reactions to the skin.
The outlet at Tropicana Mall is stocked with a range of ready-to-wear shoes that are ultra comfortable for the entire family as well as people in the hospitality, airline and nursing professions.
There are also shoes for children between the ages of four and 14 as well as casual shoes, sports shoes and sandals for both men and women.
Accessories ranging from orthotic insoles for support to comfortable foot and shoe care products are also available.
