THE Tropicana City Mall Magic Carnival 2009, an event comprising a competition, performances by international magicians and magic workshops held over two weekends, ended with a grand finale on May 3 at which five winners were announced.
The magic competition, which attracted overwhelming response from participants, took centrestage at the carnival.
The contestants charmed their way into the final with several daredevil tricks and fine showmanship.
Kimmy Liew emerged champion and won RM3,000, a trophy and a certificate. Jay Guo bagged the first runner-up prize of RM2,000, a certificate and a trophy, and 2nd runner-up Mark Yong walked away with RM1,000, a trophy and a certificate.
The mall’s senior marketing and leasing manager Mabel Tan presented the prizes to the winners.

The duo Ichiro & Pinky took the Most Promising Magician award and received a certificate, trophy and RM200 from chief judge Sonny Hew.
Guo also bagged the Most Entertaining Magician award which won him RM200 and a trophy.
International magicians from Hongkong, Iran, the US, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Thailand entertained and mesmerised the audience with their spellbinding tricks.
Shoppers who spent a minimum of RM50 at the mall registered for the magic workshop where they learned to perform tricks.
